Paris: New Life for Old Metro Stations

All photos by NKM
Populist, or a bit far out? A candidate in the upcoming mayoral election in the French capital has recently presented several concept studies for the resurrection of decommissioned Metro stations.
If elected, Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet – known as NKM by her supporters – wants to transform these ‘ghost stations’ into attractive public spaces. The designs for this transformation have been prepared by the architects Manal Rachdi and Nicolas Laisné. They envision the underground structures as swimming pools, exhibition rooms, concert halls or night clubs. As mayor, NKM would establish a Co-Creation Platform which would enable citizens to submit their own ideas involving new uses for these unused public areas. Not a bad idea!
