good-day, bad day

for one reason and another, this week has been particularly tough. to try and salvage the last two days until the weekend, i decided to take a walk to the park, near where i work, for lunch. i found these, among others, along my path....

(taken with my iphone. yipee!)

it goes, without saying, my mood has significantly lifted. they say nature really is therapeutic, and i feel it.

(the fruit salad i bought on my way back didn't hurt either!)

happy earth day!

in honor of the earth (or maybe just a slight obsession with home depot and avoiding the gym), i bought over 100 dollars worth of plants and healthy soil last night. with only 4 weeks (gasp!!) of good planting season left, ill be celebrating and hopefully beautifying the little bit of earth i live on today by planting as many as i can. in the meantime, some inspiration from my parents' backyard:

and some tips on good planting habits and tricks

________ to be back

just got back back from cali cali and couldnt be happier then to find out that this place has been sitting right under my nose (almost literally) right here in ny ny. if this place cant make me re-love the concrete jungle of new york, and keep me sane enough to see past the craziness that goes on here, im not sure anything can.

pomander walk is located in manhattan on the upper west side and was designed by the architectural company king + cambell in the 1920s.  the tudor-style houses are aesthetically unique and although each of the 16 contains 2 separate apartments, many have been converted into 2 storey homes.

bird-house-brilliance

one of my favorite things is the ease in which one thing can lead to another, most especially the way this happens on the internet. i feel compelled to mention this since it basically happens at least 15 times a day for me, and more importantly, its the reason i found this beautifully crafted, absolutely stunning, hand-made bird house built of materials that could have easily been found in your recycling bin. what an inspiration to not only recycle, but also design, and explore with materials and structure!

this is just one of many birdhouses designed by incredibly talented design group austin+mergold and could be found at one of my most most most favorite stores: anthropologie

just for the sake of throwing something in re: being a bridesmaid, what i wouldn't  do to be able to make this for my friend/bride-to-be to wear on her wedding day....
