Zaha Hadid Architects has released images of the Changsha Mexihu International Cultural & Art Centre. We are told that it embodies a unique variety of Civic nodes and spaces. Changsha is the capital of Hunan province, and this is the latest in series of amazing buildings that will set that country apart as a cultural superpower.
Other accommodation includes a grand theatre, a contemporary art museum, and supporting facilities.
The project is the centrepiece of a cultural development that will see the province become a regional powerhouse in the arts.

Changsha Meixihu International Culture & Arts Centre Changsha, China Changsha Meixihu Industry Co., Ltd. 115,000m2 The International Culture & Arts Centre embodies a unique variety of civic nodes and spaces: A Grand Theatre, a Contemporary Art Museum, a Multipurpose Hall and supporting facilities. The central plaza is generated by the relative position of these separate buildings and offers a strong urban experience whereby the flow of pedestrian visitors that come from all sides of the site intersect and meet. In parallel it also stretches outwards to the neighboring streets with unfettered and phenomenal views across Meixi lake with access towards Festival Island.

happy birthday lambo

Lambo cycle: bike made for Lamborghini by BMC.
by editorial office Detail Daily on 03.11.13

Happy birthday Lamborghini.
Lamborghini is apparently 50 years old, far younger than many of the drivers of their cars! To celebrate their birthday they have commissioned this slick road bike from BMC. Only 50 of the machines will be made and will sell for 25,000 Euros, around 32,500 USD.
The frame is made of carbon fibre by Impec, a Swiss manufacturer, with components from other Italian firms.

In the beginning there was a vision
Race cars and race bikes have a lot in common. Beyond the obvious similarities in shapes and colors, the cutting-edge technology, high-performance handling characteristics, and complete integration of engineering, research, and design all combine to deliver world-class performances on road and track. Lamborghini and BMC are two companies known for forging their own identities and breaking new ground, often times with disregard for trends and conventions. They're known for turning novel ideas into functional designs, never hesitating to try innovative technical solutions by thinking outside the design box. And both companies continually search for perfection in their respective industries. In the 1960s, Ferruccio Lamborghini strove to build the ultimate race car. Fifty years later, Swiss entrepreneur, Andy Rihs, turned his vision of the impeccable race bike into reality. For both companies, progress in carbon composite manufacturing has been at the center of their projects and their successes. Lamborghini produces carbon bodywork just next to its headquarters in Sant'Agata, Bologna, while BMC replaced traditional carbon frame laminate processes with a ground-breaking, fully-automatized production process at its headquarters in Grenchen, Switzerland. Both companies simultaneously unveiled their newest facilities and technologies in 2010.
Italian Heritage
The 50th Anniversary Lamborghini Edition impec combines Italian flair and tradition with modern technology. An exclusive set of Italian made components equips the impec frame, which is then painstakingly painted to highlight the precise carbon assembly while at the same time linking the complete work to Lamborghini's Aventador dream car. Additional details have been incorporated from the Aventador, including the same leather used by Lamborghini for their seats. This hide makes its way to the impec's cockpit for bar tape and saddle. The color, the feel, and the look are all authentic and exclusive to the Lamborghini Edition impec.
More information and order
The Lamborghini 50th Anniversary Edition impec is limited to 50 pieces worldwide, and will be produced on a made-to-order basis. Retail price is set at 25,000 Euros. house in uleta

photos: Roberto Ercilla – Miguel Ángel Campo.

The Roman God Janus, after whom the month of January was named, was the God of beginnings and transitions. He is usually depicted as having two faces, looking in opposite directions towards the beginning and the end.

This house reminds me of this depiction. On the one side it is part of a luxury housing estate and clearly fits that category, whilst on the other hand it faces an industrial site and so takes ideas for its form from that view.

The architects see this as a critique of the unsatisfactory nature of the luxury housing round about, but a case could be made that the design provides a penetrating insight into a sense of unease about the site and the neighbours.

The house, located in Uleta Spain and completed in 2002 is surrounded by a high fence. Most of the house is top lit via a series of rooflights set in a sawtooth roof. On the ground floor there are large glazed windows looking over the terrace but generally the house is inward facing.

The interior it is light and white, full of Modernist simplicity with a touch of heroism! But on the outside it appears demure, toned down using simple timber cladding.

We are told that the final result is an apparently ironic comment on some house designs the architects Roberto Ercilla – and Miguel Ángel Campo do not like.

House in Uleta
This isolated single family home, located in a luxury estate, reflects architecture's failure to give solutions for a "comprehensible" interpretation of the location.
The house, located on the borders of the estate, takes on the industrial landscape opposite. It uses a very efficient section type that allows the fulfilment of all of the client's initial requirements: privacy and light.
A small industrial container is manipulated, modifying the section to fit in the rooms of the upper floor without altering the unitary interpretation of the space.
Going through the threshold, the house's apparent hermetecism becomes a cascade of light. The interior is white and well-lit, the outside dark and hermetic, toned down by using wood.
The final result speaks ironically of the achievements of a certain domestic architecture, further suggesting the ambiguity between the interior and exterior.

Textile artist Maryanne Quinn puts a modern spin on folk art in her felted wool wall hangings.  Though her pieces often have a childlike appeal, Maryanne extends her art form with bold graphics and ironic references that make them unexpectedly sophisticated. With a keen and disciplined eye as a former graphic designer, Maryanne turns traditional craft into contemporary art in a commanding and refreshing way.  Each piece is an original made with naturally dyed merino wool. Images and patterns are cut and layered then fused together through a wet felting process.
